Financial Close reached on the Royal Papworth Hospital and construction is well underway.

The Vision for the Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
is to build a 300-bed, purpose-built hospital, with 97% single inpatient rooms. The new hospital will be co-located with a Heart & Lung Research Institute on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC) with the project ensuring the Trust’s strategic aim to continue to be a centre of excellence in specialist heart and lung services.

The scheme reached Financial Close in March 2015 allowing construction work to start immediately on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC). The proposed accommodation includes Acute Inpatient Beds located in 6 wards, a 46 bedded Critical Care Area including Cardiac Recovery Unit and Cardiac High Dependency Unit, an integrated intervention suite including Bronchoscopy Suites, Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories, Operating Theatres and hybrid Operating Theatres, a Day Ward with Cardiac Lounge, plus a centrally-located state-of-the-art Ambulatory, Diagnostic and Treatment Centre.

SHP Roles and Responsibilities

Strategic Healthcare Planning were commissioned jointly with Devereux Architects to provide both Healthcare Planning and Architectural advisory services respectively leading up to Financial Close for the development of the Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust on behalf of the Trust. This commission involved reviewing and updating the Trust’s Requirements (both Clinical and Non Clinical), ensuring the facilities represented state of the art standards and validating the correct balance of FM facilities were available to support the Medical facilities. These services were provided during the bidding process from Expression of Interest, through the selection process, to Preferred Bidder stage by guiding the prospective partners to ensure their proposals complied with the Trust Requirements, and undertaking formal evidence based assessments at each stage to provide the Project Team with appropriate data upon which to score the proposals.
