The first integrated, stand alone dental hospital and dental school to be built in the UK for almost 40 years.

Strategic Healthcare Planning has supported the Trust and University to deliver this prestigious project. The new Birmingham Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry is equipped to treat over 120,000 patients a year and offers world-class learning and research facilities for more than 600 students. The new hospital sits on a 1.5-hectare (3.7-acre) site, covers an area of 15,465 m2 and offers a wide range of clinical services including emergency dental care, restorative dentistry, oral surgery and medicine, orthodontics and paediatric dentistry.

Dental services and clinical teaching is delivered from 153 Dental Chairs, a range of Diagnostic facilities, a 56 ‘Phantom Head’ Clinical Skills Suite, a 40 place Teaching and Production Laboratory suite, and integrates a 225 place split-use Lecture Theatre, with further library and seminar rooms with the addition of a 830 m2 Research Laboratory as part of the wider University of Birmingham campus.

This development is a key element of the new Edgbaston Medical Quarter and further enhances the city’s reputation as a hub of medicine, learning and life sciences.

The £49 million new Birmingham Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry at Pebble Mill has won the prestigious Design through Innovation Award at this year’s Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) West Midlands Awards, held on 18th May 2017 at Edgbaston Cricket Club.
